Daily Eczema Shampoo & Body Wash for Dry, Itchy, Sensitive Skin

Happy Cappy Daily Shampoo & Body Wash is a fragrance-free, non-soap cleanser developed by board-certified pediatrician Dr. Eddie Valenzuela for dry, itchy, sensitive, eczema-prone skin. It can be used as a shampoo, face wash, and body wash, giving babies, children, and adults one cleanser for their daily routine.

A formula designed for sensitive skin

The formula combines cleansing ingredients with glycerin, panthenol, and hyaluronic acid, which help attract water, along with oat, licorice root, and aloe extracts. It is made without fragrance, dyes, parabens, or sulfate surfactants such as SLS and SLES. A gentle cleansing routine matters when skin is prone to dryness. In their American Academy of Dermatology guideline, Eichenfield and colleagues recommend limited use of non-soap cleansers with a neutral to low pH that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic for people with atopic dermatitis.¹ These principles offer a useful framework for choosing a cleanser for eczema-prone skin.

Low pH and the skin’s natural defenses

Daily Wash is formulated at an acidic pH. The skin’s naturally acidic surface helps support the processes that maintain its outer barrier and innate antimicrobial defenses. This is one reason skin pH matters in cleanser formulation.²

Acidity is one part of a finished formula. Cleansing ingredients, their concentrations, and how they work together also influence mildness; a lower pH alone does not guarantee a gentler cleanser.² Our product pH comparison explains the distinction between the acidic Daily Wash and neutral Medicated Wash.

Dermatologist-reviewed skin-tolerability testing

A sample of the Daily Wash formula underwent a repeat-insult patch test in 2018. The final report was reviewed by a board-certified dermatologist. Of 58 enrolled participants, 52 completed the study; the six who discontinued did so for reasons unrelated to the test material.³

The study used a 10% dilution of the product in water. Participants received nine patch applications, followed by a rest period and a challenge application at a new skin site. No irritation or allergic contact sensitization was observed under these test conditions, and no adverse events were reported.³

This testing provides evidence about the tested formula’s skin tolerability. It did not measure eczema improvement, changes in skin pH, or antimicrobial activity. The research explaining the skin’s acid mantle and this finished-product patch test answer different questions. Individual skin responses can still vary.

Cleansing as part of an eczema care routine

Use Daily Wash according to its label and rinse thoroughly. After bathing, gently pat the skin dry and apply a fragrance-free moisturizer while the skin is still slightly damp. Moisturizing is a separate step that helps manage the dryness associated with eczema.¹ Follow your clinician’s treatment plan for active eczema.
